Larchmont Remembered

Saturday, May 16th 3pm – 4pm
Larchmont Remembered showcases the story of the sinking of a luxury cruise steamship in 1907, one of New England’s greatest maritime disasters.
Anyone captivated by the story of Titanic or The Perfect Storm is invited to attend this free program at Ventress Memorial Library on May 16th at 3pm, exploring the little-known yet most horrific maritime disaster in local history.
The Friends of the Ventress Memorial Library are proud to sponsor Larchmont Remembered, a deep dive into the story of what is known as Rhode Island’s Titanic. The program will be presented by Mr. Daniel Harrington, former Providence Journal columnist, former East Providence City Councilor, and Director of the Rhode Island Heritage Hall of Fame. This compelling story of one of New England’s most horrific maritime disasters features a 1907 collision off the coasts of Block Island and Watch Hill, harrowing rescue efforts in frigid waters, and daring heroes from Massachusetts and Rhode Island.
The event will be held on Saturday, May 16th at 3pm at the Ventress Memorial Library in Marshfield. The program is free to the public and donations will be gratefully accepted. Light refreshments will be served. No tickets necessary. Parking in the side lot to the left of the library is recommended.
