Who It's For

Calling all readers! Join us for our 2021 summer reading challenge; the theme this year, Tails & Tales, is all about animals. We have three separate challeges - one for kids (birth - grade 5), one for teens (grade 6-12), and one for adults. Please note, for emerging readers, caregivers are encouraged to log books read to young participants. And for all ages and reading abilities, whether you love reading a little or a lot, are a gamer, a superfan, an activist, a parent, a grandparent, a newborn, a preschooler, an animal lover, or just trying to have a fun summer, this challenge is for you!

How to Get Started - Kids

For kids, sign up in person in the Children's Room or call the library to sign up and receive exclusive goodies; kids' registration ends July 13 (please note the Beanstack challenge will continue to be open for registration for the duration of the Summer Reading Challenge). Once signed up, you can choose to record the challenge in-person or online - please do not do both! To participate online, sign up on our Beanstack portal here. To participate in-person, download and print a summer reading sheet here or pick one up in the library.

How to Get Started - Teens & Adults

Teens and adults can participate online or in person. To participate online, sign up on our Beanstack portal here. You will still need to come into the library to claim your prizes. To participate in person, fill out your summer reading sheet and turn it in at the Check Out Desk. Please note that reading sheets with incomplete information may not be counted for the end of summer prize drawing; however, all readers with completed sheets may claim their prize book when turning it in. Download and print a summer reading sheet for teens here. Download and print a summer reading sheet for adults here. You may also pick up summer reading sheets at the library.

How to Complete the Challenge

You can read, complete activities, or both! Kids complete a total of ten books and/or activities, while teens & adults complete a total of eight books and/or activities to finish the challenge. You can also double-dip! If you finish a book while doing a reading activity (e.g. reading outside) you can check off the activity and put it in your reading log!

What You Get

Everyone who completes the challenge by August 19 gets a free book. Free books will be available for readers to choose from the prize cart - at the Check Out Desk for teens & adults, and in the Children's Room for kids -  from June 28 through early August 19. Everyone who completes the challenge also gets one entry in our end of summer prize drawing. And if you finish the challenge, you can log more books and/or check off more activities to earn bonus entries.
