She expressed her gratitude for the generous Professional Development Scholarship awards granted by the Friends to both Ms. Ward and Circulation Director Amy Boivin. The scholarships enabled Ms. Ward and Ms. Boivin to attend the New England Library Association's annual conference from October 1st to 4th in Burlington, VT. They were able to connect with other librarians and recognized authors, and to attend workshops on the latest trends in library offerings for young adults. Ms. Ward also gleaned some new ideas about incorporating math skills into storytime sessions, and previewed and engaged a fabulous performer named Jackson Gillman who brought Rudyard Kipling to life at the Ventress library on November 12th. The group was also briefed on the current array of children's programming, which includes book discussion groups for grade schoolers, middle schoolers, and teens.
